Snaps Is a Reykjavik bistro which is one of our favourite restaurants. It is a small French bistro in the centre of Reykjavik. The word Snaps is the Icelandic version of the German word Schnapps, a small strong shot, hugely popular all over mid- and northern Europe. The Icelandic version of schnapps is the Icelandic brennivín, a schnapps flavoured with caraway seeds and usually drunk with the shark, fermented skate and other Icelandic „delicacies.“ This fun restaurant not only has great food, and fun atmosphere but it is definitely best for Icelandic celeb spotting!

Update 23rd of February 2020

We just visited Snaps last evening where we enjoyed an hors d’oeuvre of goat cheese, honey and nuts.

Man with champagne.
A little bit of champagne goes a long way

We enjoyed the main dishes of moules frites and duck. For dessert, we had incredibly decedent date cake with ice-cream and lemon cake.

The drinks on offer

The restaurant, on the other hand, does offer a few of the nordic schnapps(es?) but a more common drink sighting is a girl with a glass of champagne or an Aperol Spritz, or some guys glugging down an icy pint of a nice local beer.

Rare sight indeed. Nobody at Snaps restaurant!

Blend of Nordic and French Cuisine in this awesome Reykjavik bistro

The food is a blend of authentic French dishes, for example, steak fries with bearnaise, moules frites (my favourite) or duck confit, as well as some Nordic dishes, such as open-faced sandwiches with herring or pork belly. One of the most popular dishes is the Fish of the day, where talented chefs create amazing plates of the freshest fish on the market each day.

We love the seafood at Snaps Restaurant.

This Reykjavik bistro is the right place for Icelandic celeb-spotting

The wine list is not very long but good. The house wines are nice and affordable just like the food. But what really makes Snaps! special is the super fun atmosphere there. Always bustling and energetic, the restaurant is hugely popular with Iceland´s elite crowd.  Fans of Icelandic TV shows, movies or music might recognize some faces among the guests! It is so popular in fact, that they don´t take reservations after 18.30 at night since the place is always full. So if you are in the mood for a really fun night out with super tasty food, go to Snaps!, but beware that you might have to wait for a table for some time, sitting in the bar downstairs. But you sure are going to have fun while waiting!

Sweet end to your meal.
