Jon Heidar, Editor of Stuck in Iceland Travel Magazine

Stuck in Iceland Travel Magazine had a fantastic year in 2024! I am grateful for the magazine’s success this year. Over 108 thousand people read the magazine, a 70% increase since 2023! Over six thousand people subscribed to my newsletter and received discount codes for hundreds of tours and travel services. I hope they had a fantastic vacation in Iceland and were able to save on great experiences using my discount codes. The fact that most of my readers and subscribers find the magazine through search engines or visit its website directly is important for two reasons. Firstly, it shows me that I am creating something that creates value for people. Secondly, it makes the magazine financially viable and, yes, quite profitable, in case you are wondering.

Life is good!

This has been a good year for me personally. Life rolls on; my daughter is killing it in her political science studies at the University of Iceland, and my wife continues to wow her audiences here in Iceland and abroad with her singing. Our two cats continue to be amusing little rascals. If you are into cats, you can even follow my three-legged terror, Krummi (slang for raven), on Instagram. If you want to follow me on Instagram, I am @jonhth there.

I started working in marketing for Lava Show

I left my marketing job at Controlant and started working in digital marketing for the fantastic Lava Show in November. The company operates unique experiences in Reykjavik and the wonderful village of Vík. It is the hottest show in town, for sure! We have big plans for the Lava Show, and I am so proud to be working with the wonderful founders. Just look at the reviews Lava Show has on Google and Tripadvisor. Anyway, stay tuned! I am very aware and thankful for how blessed and privileged we are in a world where too many people are struggling.

Curating the best tours available for my readers and subscribers

The curated selection of tours I created on the Viator platform was also successful. I took a lot of time to select what I think are the best experiences in Iceland available there. My hope is that the list of tours in Iceland will enable you to have the right experience in Iceland. I will continue to refine those lists.

Thanks to my partners in the Icelandic travel industry

I am also very grateful for my 52 partners in the Icelandic travel industry, who have been super-generous with their offers to my subscribers. I appreciate them all; they are top-quality companies striving to create great customer experiences.

Thanks to all my interviewees

I published 26 interviews in 2024, and I thank the interviewees for taking time from their busy schedules to answer my questions. The unique and local interview perspective is an excellent addition to my magazine.

There are challenges

Of course, this project has some challenges. Mostly, it is about finding the time to create new content and keeping everything current. I am very much aware that my social media game is not what it should be. It is also clear that search engines heavily favor bigger players –  staying high on search engine results is tough for a one-man show like Stuck in Iceland Travel Magazine. I am pretty sanguine about this. The beauty of running Stuck in Iceland is that it is completely up to me what I do with it! I will keep doing it while I enjoy working on the project or until my readers, subscribers, and partners signal that they no longer like it!

Thank you for the five-star reviews on Trustpilot

Anyway, I still enjoy running the magazine. My joy comes from the support I feel from my readers, subscribers, and partners. Thank you so much! I am also blown away by the twenty-seven five-star reviews the magazine has on the Trustpilot review site. Thank you so much, reviewers, for taking the time to write a review and being so generous to the magazine.

What can you expect in 202 for Stuck in Iceland Travel Magazine?

I want to do more to highlight eco-friendly travel and experiences offered by local people in each region. I also want to highlight more Icelandic artists, scholars, entrepreneurs, and scientists. There is so much happening in Icelandic society, so many creative Icelanders deserve a spotlight on what they are doing in their fields. I will do my best to do just exactly that. But don’t worry, I will ask everybody for travel advice that I hope will help you have a fantastic vacation in Iceland. But enough of that. Here are the articles and interviews my readers and subscribers read the most in 2024.
