Whale watching at Hauganes near Akureyri has a 30-year history this year. Akureyri is my hometown, and visiting beautiful Hauganes village is delightful. So it is my pleasure to announce my partnership with Whale Watching Hauganes. Sign up for the Stuck in Iceland newsletter to receive a discount promo code for 15% off an admission ticket for their whale-watching tour.

Top rated whale watching at Hauganes

Hauganes Whale Watching is, like all my partners, a top-rated tour operator on Tripadvisor. They pioneered whale watching in 1993, and their tours have a very high success rate. After all, the fjord of Eyjafjordur is teeming with humpback whales, mink whales, and white-beaked dolphins. To see the giants of the sea, you will embark on either of renovated and spacious oak boats. The boats can approach the whales soundlessly, so the animals’ disturbance is minimal. The company adheres to a strict code of conduct for its activities.

Environmentally friendly whale watching

I also love that the company considers the environment. They plant trees to help offset the emissions from their tours and their whale watching partly run on biodiesel made from recycled cooking oil.

After your whale-watching adventure, you can visit the amazing Baccalá bar for delicious Icelandic salt fish. Then I recommend you soak in the hot tubs and enjoy the beautiful view.
