Many of my readers are now planning their 2022 trip to Iceland. So without further, here are twenty-two things you should consider including in your trip to Iceland. This list of 22 things to do in Iceland in 2022 is in no particular order, and to be honest, there is so much more to do and see here in Iceland. I hope this inspires you when you plan your Iceland trip.
1. Get treats in Ísafjörður town
Be amazed at the great food and drinks you will find in the remote small town of Ísafjörður.
2. Discover the biggest Icelandic waterfall you have never heard of
See Dynjandi waterfall in the Westfjords.
3. See lava running indoors.
Things get hot at the Icelandic lava show. Pro tip: take your coat off.
4. Find the giants of the sea
Go whale watching with Elding.
4. Chuckle at puffins
Puffins are beautiful birds, but I also find them amusing. Go puffin watching in Iceland.
5. See the most beautiful lake in Iceland
Visit the beautiful lake Mývatn and soak in the Mývatn nature baths.
6. Visit an industrial estate for Iceland’s latest gem
In an industrial estate in the suburban town of Kópavogur, the is the Sky-Lagoon. You will don’t want to miss this.
7. Go Ice exploring
Go deep inside an Icelandic glacier. I am not kidding. You should.
8. Soar like an Icelandic raven
Go tandem paragliding and see Iceland from the air. Just like the Icelandic raven.
9. See the stunning black beach near Vík
Some say the black beach is touristy. I’m afraid I have to disagree. The black beach never fails to impress me.
10. Fall in love with eating Icelandic shark
At Bjarnarhöfn shark museum, the curator will teach you the art of consuming delicious Icelandic sharks.
11. Observe a unique basalt framed waterfall
The basalt columns frame Aldeyjarfoss waterfall perfectly. See it if you can.
12. See the Stuðlagil canyon
It would help if you had more perfect basalt columns in your life, so consider visiting Stuðlagil canyon.
13 Dip into Vök nature baths
If you are traveling in the east of Iceland, you should relax at Vök baths.
14. Visit Thingvellir
Thingvellir has a long and complex history. It is well worth visiting.
15. Snorkel between tectonic plates
In the Silfra crevice, you can snorkel in crystal-clear water. Just do it.
16. See the incredible glacial lagoons of Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón
The glacial lagoons of Fjallsárlón lagoon and Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon are, in my opinion, must see-places. They will do nothing for your climate anxiety, though.
17. Get ice diamonds for free
At the beach of Breiðamerkursandur, icebergs from the nearby Jökulsárlón – Glacial Lagoon – wash ashore. Beauty ensues.
18. Discover sheer power and feel small
Dettifoss waterfall thunders into its canyon with terrific force. Witnessing Dettifoss thunder away is an excellent lesson in perspective.
19. Hike the Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail
Unless the weather is s*it, walking between glaciers is epic.
20. Learn about the Viking-age settlers
Visit the 871+3 museum downtown Reykjavik and see how the first Icelanders lived.
21 Take a stroll in the Reykjavik park
Elliðaárdalur valley is a pleasant area for a walk, run, or a bike ride.
22. Walk in in Sleipnir’s hoof-steps
The stunningly beautiful Ásbyrgi is such a lovely place to visit. The neighborhood is also just incredible.
22 things to do in Iceland in 2022 is no way complete
There are many other fantastic things to do in Iceland, but I hope this is helpful for your travel planning. Take your time when traveling, and stay safe in Iceland.
