Catching the Aurora borealis, or the northern lights as they are commonly known to most, can sometimes be difficult.  Seeing them is highly rewarding though and the chase after them can be highly enjoyable.

And when you finally see them it can be sublime as this recent video from northern lights above Thingvellir shows. The search for the northern lights might be made easier by the aurora forecast from the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

The Aurora Reykavik northern lights center will be climate controlled and will use multimedia to convey the wonder of the northern lights

If you have true passion for the heavenly displays of the northern lights you will be interested in taking a look at the  northern lights center called Aurora Reykjavik that will open in the center of Reykjavik in middle of May. The museum will have several dimensions to it. It will put the northern lights in the context of Icelandic culture and folk tales and explain the science behind this incredible natural wonder. But I suppose most will be most interested in the multimedia representation of the northern lights that the museum will offer. Without giving too much a away, the northern lights will be projected and represented in a cool auditorium. The adjective cool is appropriate as it will climate controlled for extra realism.

We here at Stuck in Iceland are looking forward to this latest addition to great destinations in Reykjavik.

How to get there
The Aurora Reykjavik will be located on Grandagardur 2 just by the Reykjavik harbour.
